The Indignity of Being Beary

I think I mentioned that Bree got a play kitchen for her birthday - or if I didn't mention it, my parents got Bree a play kitchen for her birthday. Bree is torn about this kitchen - she loves to turn the knobs, open & shut the doors, but it's like she knows it's not the real thing. The fact that it's sitting in the "real" kitchen might have something to do with that, though.

I was envisioning me being able to cook and/or do the dishes in (relative) peace while Bree kept herself busy in her kitchen - wow, was that a pipe dream!

Bree uses the kitchen as a great hiding place for things. But her favorite thing to hide is Beary.

Poor Beary gets crammed into every space imaginable. Multiple times. And Bree is fascinated by the fact that she can slam the door on Beary, open it up again, remove Beary and then slam her into a different space. This keeps both Bree and Beary occupied for quite a while.

I have also found two dish towels that I had lost track of. I mean, I figured Bree had taken them and was playing with them, but it never occured to me to check the play refrigerator.

So, a few posts ago I put up a picture of how Bree uses her chair as a stepping stool to get to higher places. I have removed the chair and banished it to the laundry room where it sits on top of the dryer. Tonight, Bree has discovered that if she's really quick, she can stand on the handle bars of her tricycle to jump up to higher surfaces. I won't even tell you how many times it took her to realize that she had to be REALLY quick. . . . .

This weekend I tried to get her outside as much as possible. She was able to play for an hour at a local park yesterday, and I got her outside two separate times at home today. The high was around 35 degrees today, but you'd have thought it was the middle of summer with the way she was running around outside. While I sat on a lawn chair and shivered, I was thinking, "yeah! Run! Run like the wind, girl! TIRE YOURSELF OUT!"
We'll see if it worked - she's headed to be now. :)

The Benevolent Dictator @ Two

Bree has started to speak in two & three word phrases - most of which are commands that MUST BE OBEYED. Or else there will be foot stomping and swinging arms.

"Sit HERE, Mama."

"Sit DOWN, Mama."

"I STUCK." - mostly when she's in her car seat.

Scott likes to say her name in a sing-song pitch, "Breeeeeeeeeee." To which she commands, "HUSH!"

"I GO!" - when she's on her tricycle.

"I DOWN, Mommy" - when she's having her diaper changed and wants to get down.

"Allllllllll done!" - when she's finished with a meal.

We had her two year check up yesterday, and she finally hit 20 pounds!

  • Weight: 20 lbs on the button
  • Height: 30 3/4 inches - she's on the charts, in the 1st percentile for height!

The doctor might want to do a bone age test on Bree at some point but needs to find out what the minimum age is for the test. The bone age test will tell if she's on track for her height potential. If the bone age is lower than her physical age, then there's a chance that she might need growth hormones. If her bone age is equal to her physical age, then it's confirmation that she's on track for her growth and she's just going to be small. "Tiny But Mighty!" as her Grandma and Papa say.

All in all, she's doing just great. She would prefer that her adoring crowd* come back NOW because just having Mommy at home just isn't all that much fun for her. But she's getting back into the swing of things at daycare.

Actually, yesterday, Bree fell off something and landed on her face. Miss Jenna heard the other kids start to scream so she went to see what the fuss was about. Apparently Bree had a bloody nose but just kept on playing. She was scaring the other kids because they had no idea what whas happening to Bree - but she was totally unconcerned and wanted to keep playing. Miss Jenna had a hard time getting her to stay still so she could clean her up. Good thing that happened after her doctor's appointment . . . .
